Judicial assessment and mediation welcomed in Industrial and Fair Employment Tribunals in Northern Ireland

The Law Society Mediation Service (LSMS) has welcomed the announcement that Judicial assessment and mediation will be launched in the Industrial and Fair Employment Tribunals from 31 March 2023.

The announcement is significant as it means that Northern Ireland is now in line with the rest of the United Kingdom and employers will be able to pursue mediation to resolve their disputes.

The introduction of Judicial assessment and mediation will benefit practitioners, employers, and litigants in the Industrial and Fair Employment Tribunals by encouraging parties to settle early in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Mediation can enable a resolution of a dispute and can help avoid the uncertainty, stress and costs of lengthy litigation providing a much better experience and outcome.Commenting the Chair of the Law Society Mediation Service (LSMS), Brian Speers said:

“We welcome the announcement that Judicial assessment and mediation will be launched in Industrial and Fair Employment Tribunals cases in Northern Ireland.
